Team members at Garden Park Medical Center have mentored allied health students from Gulfport High School’s Academic Institute for almost 4 years. Approximately 10 times a year, 25 or more high school students visit with our medical staff in numerous areas throughout the hospital including laboratory, med/tele, radiology, labor and delivery and more. The leaders within the departments take the time to review priorities and their processes.. The one-on-one attention inspires and motivates some students to join the health care industry. Tammy Gartman, education coordinator at Garden Park, leads the effort to orient and organize the students says, “we are shaping the future in health care by offering Gulfport High School students the opportunity to visit and learn. These students will grow wherever they are planted. As a facility, we are lucky to have supplied that nurturing for a short period of time.” Randy Rogers, CEO, represented Garden Park at Gulfport School District’s School Board meeting in January, and received a plaque from Superintendent of Gulfport Schools, Glen East, in recognition of GPMC’s commitment to excellence in education.
