GULFPORT – Garden Park Medical Center today announced new visitor restrictions to protect the health of patients, visitors and staff against the coronavirus, COVID-19. Effective March 18, all non-essential visitors are prohibited from entering the hospital.

“Last week we consolidated entry points began screening all visitors prior to entry,” said Randy Rogers, Garden Park CEO. “Patients, visitors and staff positively responded to these measures and appreciate our care and concern.

“Now, in light of increasing COVID-19 cases in the region, we are implementing new and significant protocols to protect our community as a whole. We do not yet have a patient who has tested positive for COVID-19 at Garden Park. These new restrictions reflect our overarching responsibility to stop the spread of this virus and provide a safe environment as we deliver high-quality, compassionate healthcare.”

Garden Park visitor restrictions include:

  • No visitors except in the case of:
    • One parent or guardian for a pediatric patient to provide support
    • One support person for labor and delivery patients throughout her hospital stay
    • One support person for those with disabilities or impairments warranting assistance
    • One support person/driver for patients in outpatient surgery
    • One support person for critically ill patient who may be at end of life.

Rogers noted that activating Garden Park’s new visitor procedure was not taken lightly.

“Providing emotional support and a healing environment is at the heart of our hospital,” Rogers said. “However, we are in unprecedented times, and we must take every precaution by limiting the risk of exposure to patients, staff and physicians.”
