The Family Birth Center
Of all the babies delivered in the world each day, we know that you have sparkling wishes for your baby. At Garden Park Medical Center, we believe that welcoming a new life is nothing short of an enlightening experience, with each childbirth as breathtaking as a shooting star. Our talented team of doctors, nurses and staff is here to ensure that however and whenever your little ray of sunshine wants to make an entrance, you can rely on our expertise and experience to welcome your new baby.
Our Mothers Receive the Star Treatment
At The Family Birth Center, we cater to your individuality, making every effort to see that each mother feels comfortable and confident during her stay.
Our nine deluxe LDRP suites are beautifully decorated and equipped with latest technology for a safe, comfortable delivery for you and your newborn. You will remain in your suite during the entire birthing process—throughout labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum. It’s the perfect setting for a family-centered approach to childbirth.
Should a cesarean section be necessary, an operating suite is located inside the maternity unit. With your physician’s approval, one special person can attend the delivery for support. If the c-section is an emergency, the father or birth coach will be asked to remain in the waiting room until the mother and baby are stable.
Whenever possible, we respect the parents’ wishes for special requests, such as photographing or videotaping the birth, letting Dad cut the baby’s umbilical cord, or breastfeeding shortly after birth. Siblings are welcome to meet their new brother or sister as soon as mother and baby are stable.
To make you feel more at home, Garden Park has also equipped each room with a refrigerator, DVD player and an iPod docking station. You are invited to bring movies from home or your favorite songs on your iPod.
Our Babies Are Born Under a Lucky Star
Right from the start, your newborn will be gently cared for in your suite by our skilled staff. We encourage and support room-in for newborns, and you are welcome to keep your baby in your suite throughout your stay. Our nursery is available for times you need rest, a shower or a walk.
Our state-of-the-art nursery has several unique features for our littlest patients. Your newborn will receive his or her first bath and assessment in the nursery. Each newborn is also given a hearing test during his or her stay, as required by law. And for babies who need a little more time in the nursery after mom goes home, a breastfeeding room is available so the bonding and feeding of your newborn is interrupted as little as possible. For safety reasons, our unit has limited access. An advanced electronic infant security system is activated at all times during your stay for extra peace of mind. As a standard of high quality care, we require our nurses to become certified in Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS). We also support their efforts to obtain continuing education credits by offering programs and sending them to specialized courses.
Your pediatrician will be responsible for the newborn’s care during your stay. You must select a pediatrician during your last trimester or earlier to ensure that the pediatrician you choose will be notified when you deliver. Most pediatricians prefer to meet with expectant mothers prior to delivery to answer any questions and to review newborn care and office procedures.
Our Families Beam Brightly
We know it’s hard to leave the presence of a bright new addition to the family; therefore sleeper sofas are provided in each LDRP suite, with linens available for an overnight guest. Visitors are allowed in the room with the baby with the mother’s permission. However, to protect the newborn’s health, any guest who has a cold or any other contagious illness or who has been exposed to chicken pox in the past 3 weeks will be asked to remain in the waiting room until the baby is brought to the nursery. We ask that children under 12 be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times while in the hospital.

Pointers, Programs and Packages for New Parents
Pre-Registration—You should pre-register for hospital services as soon as possible, preferably no later than your sixth month of pregnancy. This allows us ample time to complete the pre-certification process required by most insurance companies. Please keep in mind that you are ultimately responsible for ensuring everything is completed appropriately. We suggest you review your insurance policy regarding maternity and newborn coverage early in pregnancy and again at renewal time or if your insurance changes in any way. Our pre-registration clerks will be happy to assist you if you have any questions.
Birthing Class—This comprehensive six-week course covers all aspects of pregnancy including prenatal care, diet, exercise, maternal and fetal development, preparation for the hospital, stages of labor, breathing and relaxation techniques, and postpartum and baby care. The course is also offered as a one-day Saturday class.
New Mom’s Class—Designed to be taken during the last trimester of pregnancy, this class helps prepare expectant mothers to care for themselves and their babies during the six-week period after delivery.
Breastfeeding Class—For mothers who are considering breastfeeding their newborns, this concise one-hour class provides insight into the techniques and benefits of breastfeeding.
Sibling Class—For those expanding their family, a one-hour class is offered to help prepare older siblings for their new baby. This class is ideal for children two years of age and older.
